2024 Fantasy Football Mock Draft

By Kevin Hanson (@EDSFootball)
Updated: Friday, January 12, 2024

The NFL regular season ended only a few days ago, but it's never too early to look ahead to the upcoming season.

In the near future, we will post our early 2024 fantasy football rankings. And later in (and throughout) the offseason, we will post full fantasy football mock drafts.

For now, this is an early look at how the first round in fantasy mock drafts could play out this summer.

Note: All references are based on half-PPR scoring, unless stated otherwise.

1.01 - Christian McCaffrey, RB, San Francisco 49ers

McCaffrey, fantasy's top-scoring non-QB, nearly doubled up the last RB1 (Saquon Barkley, RB12). Through Week 17, CMC (out Week 18) handled 76% of the team's 446 running back touches (excluding fullback Kyle Juszczyk's 19 touches). A perfect fit within Kyle Shanahan's offense, he led the NFL in touches (339), yards from scrimmage (2,023) and touchdowns (21), and he has finished as a top-three fantasy running back in all four of his full seasons — RB3 (2018), RB1 ('19), RB2 ('22) and RB1 ('23), respectively.

1.02 - Justin Jefferson, WR, Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings started four different quarterbacks in 2023, and Kirk Cousins is slated to become a free agent in March. While the obvious concern for Jefferson's status as fantasy's WR1 is the team's quarterback situation, especially if they don't re-sign Cousins, Jefferson had two of his best games in the final three weeks. A hamstring forced him to miss two months, but Jefferson finished with 140-plus yards in five of 10 games and averaged a career-high 107.4 YPG.

1.03 - CeeDee Lamb, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Lamb has been more productive in each successive season, and fantasy's top-scoring wide receiver was the best version of himself from Week 6-18. During that span, Lamb racked up a 108/1,391/11 on 146 targets and added 11/92/2 rushing. The only receiver (barely) within five fantasy points of Lamb (23.2) during that stretch was Miami's Tyreek Hill (18.4).

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 4

By Kevin Hanson (@EDSFootball)
Updated: Monday, September 25, 2023

Every week, I list players to potentially target from your league's waiver wire that could help your fantasy team in the short and/or long term.

To maximize the potential that these players are available in your league(s), I only include those that are available in 50% or more of Yahoo! leagues.

For example, I referenced that self-imposed limitation in Week 3 by excluding Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss, rostered in 53% of Yahoo! leagues as of last Monday, but that he should otherwise be targeted.

Moss, who is now rostered in 80% of leagues, finished Week 3 with 32 touches for 145 yards from scrimmage and a score.

This week, the top option to add does meet the 50% threshold.

What a day it was for Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane (and teammate Raheem Mostert)!

The dynamic duo scored eight total touchdowns and combined for 91 half-PPR fantasy points as fantasy's RB1 and RB2, respectively, so far this week. While it frankly looked easy for the whole offense, Achane (and his 4.32 wheels) was consistently running circles around Denver's defenders.

Achane had 18 carries for 203 yards and two touchdowns, and he added four catches for 30 yards and two more scores. Granted, Week 3 will likely be his season-best performance — it's THE season high for ALL running backs so far.

Jeff Wilson Jr. is eligible to return after next week, but Achane should remain (at least) a flex option (with plenty of upside) the rest of the way.

2023 NFL Predictions: AFC East

KEVIN HANSON (@EDSFootball)
Updated: Thursday, September 7th

Before the start of the season, I will post my NFL division-by-division predictions for the 2023 NFL regular season and postseason.

Instead of projecting an outright winner and loser in all 272 regular-season games, I've assigned a win probability to each team in every game and totaled them up.

With that said, here are our early AFC East projections for each team including their win total.

1. Buffalo Bills - Projected Wins: 10.32

The Bills have clinched three consecutive AFC East titles while finishing with four consecutive 10-win seasons. Since taking over as head coach, Sean McDermott has led the Bills to the postseason in five of six seasons. While they are the team to beat, this division is arguably the strongest from top to bottom in the NFL.

It all starts with Josh Allen, who has a 17-game average over the past three seasons of 4,591 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and 13 interceptions to go along with 675 rushing yards and seven more touchdowns. The dual-threat talent has flourished since the team traded for Stefon Diggs, who has 338/4,189/29 receiving during that three-year span. The addition of Dalton Kincaid, their first-round pick, to join Dawson Knox, James Cook, and Gabe Davis round out a talented group of pass catchers. Diggs recently talked up Davis, saying he's "damn near WR1 in my eyes." Ranking second in the NFL in total offense and scoring offense last season, the Bills will once again have one of the league's most explosive offenses.

The defense lost Terrell Edmunds, who signed a free-agent deal with the Chicago Bears, but the team has finished first or second in scoring defense in three of the past four seasons. They have finished top six in total defense in four of the past five seasons. Because of their strength of both sides of the ball, it's not surprising that they have led the NFL in scoring differential in back-to-back seasons.

Despite the challenge the Bills will face from the rest of the division, our expectation is that they will win their fourth consecutive division title. Given the expectations of the team and fan base, what will really matter is how deep into the postseason they will go. (It's been 30 years — the 1993 season — since the Bills have made it to the Super Bowl.)

Brock Purdy: Mr. Irrelevant is the term given to the final pick of each NFL draft, but Purdy, the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, was anything but irrelevant in his rookie season. From December through his final snap of the playoffs, Purdy completed 151-of-224 pass attempts (67.4%) for 1,877 yards (8.38 Y/A), 16 touchdowns (7.1%) and only three interceptions (1.3%). there appear to be no lingering concerns following his offseason UCL surgery.

Sam Darnold: Excluding a terrible performance (2.8 passer rating) in 2022's season finale with the Panthers, Darnold was playing really well before that last year. In fact, he threw for 1,100 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception with a 105.4 passer rating in his other five games started last season while adding 74 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

2023 Fantasy Football 12-Team Half-PPR Mock Draft

KEVIN HANSON (@EDSFootball)
Updated: Saturday, August 26th

The best way to become good at something is to practice. So, what should you do if you want to draft a better fantasy football team?

Practice, of course!

Leading up to the start of the 2023 NFL season, we will use the Fantasy Football Mock Draft Simulator to complete fantasy football mock drafts.

We will use a variety of scoring formats — point per reception (PPR), half-PPR, standard scoring and even 2-QB leagues — and league sizes. The goal is to provide you with a good representation of the team that you may be able to construct given your league settings and the rationale of why we made the picks we did.

> Our mocks will be tracked here: Fantasy Football Mock Drafts.

That said, nothing beats practicing yourself so (check out the simulator) and complete a mock in a matter of minutes.

Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 8th Pick

1.08 - Cooper Kupp, WR, Los Angeles Rams

Kupp pulled off the rare triple crown of receiving in 2021, finishing with 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. While he missed roughly half of his follow-up season, the 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year had a better season than maybe most realized.

Who led ALL receivers in half-PPR fantasy points scored in 2022 on a per-game basis? Yep, it was Kupp — not Justin Jefferson, or any other receiver.

2.05 - Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans

There are certainly concerns — age, cumulative career workload, the team's offensive issues, etc. Even so, Henry has led the NFL in rush attempts in three of the past four seasons (including 349 in 2022) and he's guaranteed a massive workload, as long as he remains healthy. He set a career high in receptions (33) in 2022, but he actually averaged more receptions per game in 2021 (2.3) than 2022 (2.1).

Of course, it would be preferred for Henry to be more involved as a receiver, but his relative lack of involvement in the passing game has been an over-emphasized reason to avoid Henry (at least in half-PPR formats). Here is where Henry has finished on a points-per-game basis in half-PPR scoring over the past four years (min. 8G played): third in 2022 (17.9), first in 2021 (23.0), third in 2020 (20.2) and second (tied) in 2019 (19.0), respectively.

FantasyPros tracks the accuracy of fantasy football rankings and Hanson's rankings have finished:
  • 2022: 8th (out of 163 experts tracked)
  • 2021: 6th (out of 172 experts tracked)
  • 2020: 9th (out of 149 experts tracked)

Some teams have already played their final preseason game and as the NFL preseason winds down, we are that much closer to the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football.

That also means that we are in the thick of fantasy draft season.

To help you prepare for your fantasy football drafts, we will continue to keep our fantasy football rankings updated until the start of the 2023 NFL season.

Fantasy Football Rankings 2023: Quarterbacks

1. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Fantasy managers know exactly what they're getting when they draft Allen, who has finished as fantasy's QB1, QB1 and QB2 over the past three seasons, respectively. Few quarterbacks have as much weekly upside and consistency as Allen. Last season, he finished as a top-six weekly QB in 12 of 16 games played and finished as a top-12 weekly quarterback in two more games.

2. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Hurts set career bests in passing — 66.5% completion, 8.0 Y/A, 4.8 TD%, 1.2 INT%, and 101.5 passer rating — in 2022. Despite his improvement as a passer, aided by the trade for A.J. Brown last offseason, it's especially the rushing production that makes him an elite fantasy quarterback. Over the past two seasons (30 games), the former Oklahoma (and Alabama) quarterback has rushed 304 times for 1,544 yards and 23 touchdowns. That's an equivalent to 9.75 fantasy points per game (from his rushing stats alone).

3. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Despite losing Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins, Mahomes didn't miss a beat and won his second NFL MVP award in 2022. He threw for 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns, both of which led the NFL last season. While he doesn't have as much rushing upside as Josh Allen or Jalen Hurts, he has more than 300 rushing yards in three consecutive seasons and multiple rushing scores in five consecutive seasons.

Fantasy Football Rankings 2023: Running Backs

1. Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

After two injury-plagued seasons, McCaffrey played a full 17-game slate in 2022 split between the Panthers and 49ers. If there's a concern (albeit only a slight one), it's the potential for the 49ers to scale back CMC's workload to preserve his health for a full season including the playoffs, especially given their talented supporting cast when at full strength.

When healthy, however, few, if any, running backs have a higher floor and ceiling due to his ability as a runner and receiver. From Week 7 (when SF traded for him) through the end of the season, he tied Tennessee's Derrick Henry for the most fantasy points per game (half-PPR). McCaffrey has a minimum of 80 catches in each of his four full seasons, and he's averaged 113.1 yards per scrimmage per game over his career.

2. Austin Ekeler, Los Angeles Chargers

Granted permission to seek a trade early in the offseason, Ekeler enters 2023 with fresh incentives added to the final year of his contract. As one of the league's best receiving backs, Ekeler's elite production is game-script independent. In addition, he has led the NFL in touchdowns in each of the past two seasons with a total of 38 during that span. Ekeler led all running backs in half-PPR fantasy points in 2022, and he finished second behind Jonathan Taylor in 2021.

3. Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns

Chubb has a career average of 5.2 yards per carry, but he has also yet to average fewer than 5.0 YPC in any of his first five NFL seasons. The talented back carried the ball 302 times last season for 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns, all of which set or tied career highs. While he's averaged only 1.6 receptions per game over his career, his passing-game role may (or should) expand with Kareem Hunt no longer on the roster.

Fantasy Football Rankings 2023: Wide Receivers

1. Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings

What more can Jefferson do? Not only has he improved his production in each successive season, but he broke Randy Moss's record for receiving yards through a player's first three seasons. During those three seasons, he's racked up a total of 324 receptions for 4,825 yards and 25 touchdowns.

2. Ja'Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals

Chase missed five games in 2022, but in some ways, his numbers were even better in his second season. Chase averaged a 7.3/87.2/0.75 line and fell short of 50 receiving yards in only one of 12 games last season. As a rookie, he averaged 4.8/85.6/0.77 per game, but he failed to reach 50 receiving yards in six games in his debut season. Assuming that Chase stays healthy, bigger and better things should be expected in his age-23 season.

3. Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams

Continue reading our Fantasy Football Rankings 2023: Wide Receivers

Fantasy Football Rankings 2023: Tight Ends

1. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs

While age (turns 34 in October) is still a potential concern, he's shown no signs of slowing down after posting his seventh consecutive 1,000-yard season. Without Tyreek Hill, he posted either his best or second-best numbers across the board — 152 targets, 110 receptions, 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Absolutely dominant compared to other tight ends, Kelce (15.4) averaged more than double the half-PPR fantasy points per game than the last TE1 (Dalton Schultz, TE12, 7.6 PPG). In fact, if Kelce were a wide receiver, he'd rank ahead of all but five wide receivers in fantasy PPG last season.

2. Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens

Andrews missed a couple of games in 2022, and his year-over-year production declined to 73/847/5. Even so, Andrews scored the fourth-most half-PPR fantasy points (third on a PPG basis). The additions at wide receiver creates greater competition for targets, but he remains the clear top fantasy option in Baltimore's passing game.

3. T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings

Hockenson was traded midseason within the division, and he averaged 8.6 targets and six receptions per game after the trade to the Vikings. Despite the midseason trade, he finished as fantasy's TE2, but part of that was aided by two monster games — 8/179/2 for the Lions in Week 4 and 13/109/2 for the Vikings in Week 16. Other than those two huge games, he had double-digit (half-PPR) fantasy points in only two other games.

Los Angeles Lakers NBA Mock Draft Roundup

Leading up to the 2023 NBA Draft, we will update our Los Angeles Lakers Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Los Angeles Lakers from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Lakers:

The Rookie Wire — Cody Taylor (5/19)

17. Brice Sensabaugh, Ohio State

The selection of Sensabaugh would give the Lakers some scoring and shooting. The team took a massive leap in each category after its trade deadline acquisitions and Sensabaugh would certainly add to that. He can work from all three levels and boasts great size at the next level at 6 feet, 6 inches and 235 pounds. His range could be a bit higher than this spot, but if he is still on the board, the Lakers should take a look at him.

CBS Sports — Gary Parrish (5/17)

17. Nick Smith Jr., Arkansas

Smith dealt with a less-than-perfect knee all season that limited him to just 17 games, most of which he struggled in relative to expectations that accompanied him to Arkansas. That's among the reasons he won't be selected where most projected he'd go a year ago, but he should still go somewhere inside the top 20 based on the ability to score he showed when he was healthy in high school.

Sporting News — Kyle Irving (5/17)

17. Dereck Lively II, Duke

The Lakers don't have much frontcourt depth behind Anthony Davis and a rim protector of Lively's caliber would have the perfect player to emulate in the eight-time All-Star.

Lively rebuilt his draft stock during the second half of the season, as he needed some time to carve out a role after a calf injury delayed the start of his freshman year. Once he got comfortable, Lively proved his ability to anchor a defense as an elite shot blocker and aggressive rebounder. Even if his offense never came along the way it was expected to, he showed he has what it takes to be a rim-runner and lob threat at the NBA level.

It's also worth noting that Lively is a Klutch Sports client — an agency that has several ties to the Lakers organization.

2025 NFL Mock Draft: An Early Look at Some Potential First-Rounders

Kevin Hanson (@EDSFootball)
Updated: Saturday, May 20, 2023

Many will say it's "way too early" to post a 2024 NFL mock draft. While those people are probably right, we didn't listen.

Those same people would surely say that it's "way too early" to post a 2025 NFL mock draft. We tend to agree, but it doesn't mean that we can't talk about some true freshmen from the 2022 college football season that will become draft-eligible in 2025.

Of course, there's no guarantee that these true freshmen will declare, once eligible, but here are a few names that you might hear when the 2025 draft rolls around.

Since any future draft discussion should begin with quarterbacks, there are two true sophomores who will become full-time starters in 2023 and could put themselves in position to be the top overall pick when the draft rolls around in 2025 (or when they declare).

Cade Klubnik, QB, Clemson

The former five-star recruit from Westlake H.S. (alma mater of Drew Brees, Nick Foles and Sam Ehlinger) took over for DJ Uiagalelei, who was benched in the ACC Championship Game (and other games earlier in the season), and started in the Orange Bowl to close the season. With Uiagalelei transferring to Oregon State, Klubnik enters 2023 as Clemson's unquestioned starter. Klubnik flashed in his limited opportunities, but his mobility and ability to make all the throws should make him a highly-coveted prospect when he declares for the NFL Draft, whether that's in 2025 or later. If he's not the first quarterback off the board, the biggest competitor at this early juncture is ...

2023 Fantasy Football Outlook: Josh Allen

Fantasy managers know exactly what they're getting when they draft Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

Over the past three seasons, Allen has finished as fantasy's QB1, QB1 and QB2, respectively, and he's finished no worse than QB3 in fantasy points per game over that stretch.

Excluding last year's canceled Cincinnati Bengals game, Allen scored a minimum of 19.6 fantasy points in all but two games last season. In fact, he finished as a top-six weekly fantasy quarterback in 12 (75%) of his 16 games in 2022.

Few players, at any position, have as high of a floor and ceiling as the talented dual-threat quarterback.

2024 NFL Mock Draft

Kevin Hanson (@EDSFootball)
Updated: Tuesday, May 9, 2023

The 2024 NFL Draft is roughly a year away, but it's never too early to look ahead to how things could play out.

Of course, at this point, there is a lot we don't know — what the draft order will be, who will be signed/lost in free agency next March, who will declare (or return) in 2024, etc.

Note: Draft order is from Tankathon.

This mock will be updated often between now and next April 25th, but for now, this is how the 2024 draft could play out.

Embed from Getty Images

1. Arizona Cardinals: Caleb Williams, QB, USC

With Kyler Murray under contract through the 2028 season, the Cardinals would face an interesting dilemma should they hold the top two picks in the 2024 NFL draft. Williams is the overwhelming favorite (-550) to be the top pick in next year's draft and would have been the QB1 had he been eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Source: Odds from Bovada

Williams is an accurate passer with the arm strength to make all the throws, but his ability to extend plays and create for himself is what really makes him special. Get ready for lots of Patrick Mahomes comparisons over the next year. Following his head coach from Oklahoma allowed him to acclimate quickly to his new surroundings as he threw 42 touchdowns and ran for 10 more scores in his Heisman Trophy-winning sophomore campaign.

MORE: Arizona Cardinals 2023 NFL Draft Grades

2. Arizona Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

The son of a Hall-of-Famer, Harrison Jr. has an ideal combination of size, speed, hands and body control to be an elite difference-making wide receiver at the next level. He finished his true sophomore campaign with 77 catches for 1,263 yards (16.4 Y/R) and 14 touchdowns. DeAndre Hopkins, subject of pre-draft trade rumors, remains a Cardinal, but Marquise Brown is slated to become a free agent after the 2023 season.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

Maye is the leading challenger to Williams for the QB1 honor in 2024, and he is coming off a breakout true sophomore season (4,321 passing yards, 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions with 698 rushing yards and seven touchdowns). Baker Mayfield is on a one-year deal, and former second-round pick Kyle Trask has nine career pass attempts. If the Bucs are picking third overall in 2024, this pick will almost certainly be a quarterback.

4. Los Angeles Rams: Olu Fashanu, OT, Penn State

Many expected Fashanu to be the first offensive tackle off the board in 2023 before he announced he was returning to Penn State. While Notre Dame's Joe Alt is in the mix to be the OT1, Fashanu has an impressive combination of size, length, power and athleticism to become a franchise left tackle.

2023 Fantasy Football QB Strength of Schedule

A fantasy football strength of schedule (SOS) helps fantasy managers determine which teams and players have favorable (or unfavorable) schedules for the 2023 NFL season.

Based on each team's opponents for 2023 NFL season, we have tallied the average fantasy points allowed by each of those opponents to the position.

While strength of schedule should not be the sole factor in determining who to draft/add, it could help potentially break a tie between two players that you may view as comparable.

Chicago Bears Mock Draft Roundup 1.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft, we will update our Chicago Bears Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Chicago Bears from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Bears:

EDSFootball - Kevin Hanson (5/9)

10. J.T. Tuimoloau, EDGE, Ohio State

The Bears ranked last in the NFL in sacks in 2023, so targeting an edge rusher may be high on their to-do list next April. Tuimoloau was the fourth-ranked prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle. He was absolutely dominant against Penn State (two sacks and two interceptions including one returned for a score). If he puts it all together and has the breakout season that many expect, Tuimoloau will likely be a top-10 selection in 2024.

12. Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State

The Bears added D.J. Moore (via trade) and Tyler Scott (via draft), but both Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool will be free agents after the upcoming season. While Harrison Jr. is the clear WR1 in the 2024 class, Egbuka is very talented and not too far behind him. The former five-star recruit is a good route-runner with good size (6-1, 205) and speed. He finished last season with 74 catches for 1,151 receiving yards, added 87 rushing yards and scored 12 total touchdowns.

CBS Sports - Josh Edwards (5/8)

7. Dallas Turner, EDGE, Alabama

Chicago adds a prospect to raise the ceiling and floor of its pass rush.

14. Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State

Chicago double dips at the edge rusher position. It is a premium position and the team could not address every area of weakness this year.
