Justin Herbert: Along with Tom Brady, Herbert was one of two quarterbacks to throw for more than 5,000 yards in 2021. Aided by volume (minimum of 30 pass attempts every game), Herbert eclipsed the 300-yard passing mark and/or threw multiple touchdowns in 15 of 17 games. No other quarterback had more than 14 such games. In addition, Herbert (12) led all signal-callers in top-12 (i.e., QB1-level) performances last season. The Chargers led the NFL in fourth-down conversions (22), which helped the Chargers finish top five in both plays per game (66.4, fifth) and pass attempts per game (39.6, third) last season.

Los Angeles Chargers 2023 NFL Mock Draft Roundup 1.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft, we will update our Los Angeles Chargers Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Los Angeles Chargers from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Chargers:

The Athletic - Dane Brugler (5/3)

26. Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina

The Howell-to-Downs connection was a fun one last season thanks to the quarterback's beautiful deep ball and the receiver's go-get-it skills. What Downs lacks in size he more than makes up for with his playmaking ability.

Draft Wire - Luke Easterling (5/3)

26. Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State

The Chargers have one shutdown artist on the outside now in J.C. Jackson, and the perfect fit with Asante Samuel Jr. in the slot. Here, they grab another NFL legacy pick in Porter, who would give them another talented cover man to line up across from Jackson on the outside.

Fox Sports - Jason McIntyre (5/3)

24. Arik Gilbert, TE, Georgia

This former LSU star is now in a loaded Bulldogs' tight end room, with future first-rounder Brock Bowers and potential draft pick Darnell Washington. The 6-foot-5 Gilbert is too talented to keep off the field.

2022 NFL Power Rankings: Los Angeles Chargers

Throughout the 2022 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Los Angeles Chargers rank in terms of average, best and worst:

Below you will find a post-NFL Draft roundup for the Chargers in our consensus 2022 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 9

Player who benefited most from draft: QB Justin Herbert

The Chargers selected a guard in Zion Johnson, who figures to be a Day 1 starter, and running back Isaiah Spiller, who provides a much-needed alternative to Austin Ekeler, with two of their first three draft picks. That's more good news for Herbert, who saw the Chargers re-sign receiver Mike Williams and add tight end Gerald Everett in free agency. -- Adam Teicher

NFL.com -- Rank: 7

The Chargers used free agency to improve a defense that cost them a playoff spot last season. The draft found Los Angeles targeting improvements to its exciting offense. First-round pick Zion Johnson is a plug-and-play starter at guard who meshes well with the franchise's unofficial edict: Protect Justin Herbert At All Costs. After adding secondary help in the third round with Baylor safety JT Woods, the Chargers used their fourth-round selection on running back Isaiah Spiller, an intriguing complement to touchdown machine Austin Ekeler. The AFC West is as rugged as any division in football, but the Bolts will be ready for the fight.
